[VIDEO] Relive the European Championships’ Most Spectacular 800m Race

August 23, 2026

The best race so far in this European Championship in Birmingham has been the 800 metres, a final in which the three favourites dominated the podium in an event of exceptionally high quality. After a fall in the semifinal and a subsequent requalification, Audrey Werro delivered a superb performance in the final to seize the continental title with 1:54.81, a new championship record.

The British Keely Hodgkinson, a two-time champion in Munich 2022 and Rome 2024, could not match the Swiss competitor’s energy and settled for silver (1:55.01), crossing the line ahead of the Dutchwoman Femke Bol, who capped her remarkable transition to the 800 metres from the 400, earning bronze with 1:55.54, a national record.
