The Valencia City of Running Circuit is now open to the public following the completion of the expansion works that extend its route toward the sea. The project, promoted by the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, chaired by Juan Roig, in collaboration with the Valencia City Council, makes it possible to complete the 2.1 additional kilometers planned in the project and to extend the length of this sporting facility, located in the Turia Garden, from the original 5,731 meters to nearly eight kilometers. The investment, around 2.1 million euros, has been entirely borne by the Foundation.
The expansion provides continuity to the initial path for runners in Section XII of the Turia Garden, between Gulliver Park and the Monteolivete Bridge, and extends it to Section XVI, at the current end of the old riverbed. In this way, users have a longer route for running, maintaining the technical features and comfort typical of the Circuit for runners.
The works included installing pavement specifically designed for runners, as well as adding new lighting and signage along the area affected. These improvements aim to facilitate sporting activity and promote coexistence among the different users of the Turia Garden, such as runners, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The intervention has also allowed for improvements to the surrounding green spaces. Specifically, 11,000 plants and groundcover shrubs were added and 8,500 m² of topsoil prepared and conditioned for the landscaped areas. Additionally, two renaturalized spaces were created, 73 streetlights installed along the route, and various rest areas with 2 water fountains and 6 benches, along with enhancements to the irrigation system and other installations integrated into the garden.
Art mural under the Azud del Oro bridge
The expansion also includes an art mural related to running, featuring realistic imagery tied to the practice of this sport. Located beneath the Azud del Oro bridge, it covers an area of roughly 80 square meters, with dimensions of 32 meters in length and 2.5 meters in height. The work was carried out by On Point Studio and will contribute to improving the image and visual integration of this space along the route.
In addition to funding the project, the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation will also assume maintenance of the installation until 2029, continuing its collaboration with the City Council of Valencia to improve and promote the use of sports infrastructures. The Valencia City of Running Circuit is the city’s most-used facility with more than 700,000 uses or trainings per year. With the expansion now finished and open to the public, the installation strengthens its capacity to welcome runners of all levels and provides more space for sporting activity in the Turia Garden, in the weeks leading up to the Valencia Marathon.
Record of uses in the month of October
In fact, this October 2026 has seen a record number of uses or trainings at this facility, with 82,808 uses recorded on the counter, surpassing the previous milestone from September 2022, which stood at 81,033.
