Reigning Africa 3000m steeplechase champion, Loice Chekwemoi from Uganda destroyed the women’s 10km field during the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Championship on Saturday (07) in Chepsaita Secondary in Uasin Gishu County
The 17 year-old took control of the race in round three and continued to surge further from her closest opponent Mekides Shimeles Molla from Ethiopia who could not keep up with the pulsating pace of the Ugandan who clinched the top honors in 34:32 with the latter coming home a distant later in 35:57.

Chekwemoi said that winning in Kenya was a dream come true due to their top level of competence. “I couldn’t believe I could win in the home of champions but when I was running I told myself that I am also a champion. I am working hard to ensure that I am a World Champion next year. I had to be tough to be a champion. I saw myself moving in the second loop,” said Chekwemoi.
