The 2012 Africa Games 800m bronze medallist, Tshepiso Maselela from Botswana stormed to victory in the men’s 800m race at the Czech Indoor Gala, the second leg of the World Indoor Tour Gold held on Tuesday (31) in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
The 24 year-old who is also the multiple times National champion in the 800m and 1500m and was making his debut in Indoor, held off World Athletics Championships semifinalist Catalin Tecuceanu of Romania as he crossed the finish line first in a new personal best of 1:46.41 with the latter coming home in 1:46.90.
“It was my first indoor race and it is different because of the curves. You need more technique to run indoors. Since I was a junior athlete, I always wanted to try it. I think I am going to like it. My plan was to stay in the front. That’s what I told the organizers before the race. I am planning to run four indoor races and going back to South Africa. I have not decided yet if I am going to compete indoors”, said Maselela.
The 2021 European Indoor 800m silver medallist, Mateusz Borzkovski sealed the podium three finishes in 1:47.33.
Czech Republic’s Jakub Dudycha and Daniel Kotyza came home in fourth and fifth in a time of 1:47.42 and 1:47.52 respectively.
