
Japans Tomoki Ota and collegian Kotaro Shinohara went into the History books of their country as the first two men to go under the one hour mark during the 77th edition of the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon, on Sunday (02) in Marugame, Japan.
The 27 year-old broke the old National Record of 1:00.00, set five years ago by Yusuke Ogura on this same course, with a new National Record time of 59:26.
Ota who finished third with a new personal best was followed in fourth place by the second fastest man in the country Shinohara in a time of 59:30.

The race was won by the reigning London Marathon champion Alexander Mutiso who also lowered his own course record by one second. Mutiso was followed in second place by his compatriot; Emmanuel Maru who also pulled a new personal best of 59:43.
