Tobi Amusan sets a new African Record in 60m race

World record holder in the 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan set a new African Record at the Astana Indoor Meeting, a World Athletics Tour Gold held on Saturday in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The 26 year-old who is also a double Commonwealth Games champion took down her compatriot’s Glory Alozie record of 7.87 that she had set in 1999 at the World Indoor Championships in Japan with a new African Record of 7.77 and improving upon Devynne Charlton’s world seasonal best.

The three time Diamond League winner beat the double world indoor champion, Nia Ali of United States who came home in second place in 7.89 with Ireland’s Sarah Lavin closing the podium three finishes in 7.91.

United States Amber Hughes and Jamaica’s Megan Tapper finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 7.92 and 8.03.

In a stunning display of speed and agility at the World Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Astana for Amin Tuyakov Prizes 2024, Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100 meters hurdles, emerged victorious in the women’s 60m hurdles.
