Many people have been asking about who was the third female occupant in the Toyota Premio that claimed the lives of World Men’s Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his Rwandese coach, Gervais Hakizimana on Sunday night in a tragic road accident along Eldoret -Ravine road in Keiyo South Sub-County, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Athletics News has delved into this painful journey of the mystery behind this third occupant Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei who hails from Metkei in Keiyo South and was rushed to Racecourse Hospital but later referred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Usain Gishu County, where she was later discharged.
This was confirmed by the MTRH CEO, Mr. Philip Kirwa who relayed the information of her leaving the institution, “Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei sustained minor injuries and she has received treatment and was released from the hospital.”
Kiptum’s death was confirmed by Elgeyo Marakwet County Commandant Peter Mulinge, who said “This was a self-involved accident where one Kelvin Kiptum was driving his vehicle alongside his coach who died on the spot and the third person Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei was rushed to Racecourse Hospital in Eldoret.”
Kosgei who was seated at the back seat of the vehicle was the only survivor who suffered minor injuries and was treated with a stitch on her head and bruises on her arm, which according to the medic resulted for her to be discharged.
Many questions remain unanswered and there seems to be many loopholes in this accident that leaves us with many answered questions. The burning questions are therefore as follows:
- If the Injuries were minor, why was she referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital from the Racecourse Hospital?
- Why was Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei released from hospital quietly, being a person of interest?
- Who authorized her release?
- Is Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei back to her place of stay or she is still in hospital?
- Did Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei record any statement to tell what transpired?
- If yes, where, when and what time?
- Who was Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei to the two?
