The race organizers of the second edition of The Great Chepsaita Cross Country, a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold circuit, have made changes on the course to accommodate as many athletes as possible in a race slated for December 7, 2024 at the Chepsaita Secondary school in Uasin Gishu County.
last year’s editions course did not reach the 2km but the this year, the course has met the World Athletics qualification standards where elite athletes will cover 10km while the junior men and women will cover the 8km and 6km respectively with kids athletics being divided into 500m, among others.
While speaking exclusively to Athletics News, the race director Barnaba Korir who was on inspection tour of the course today said that the since it has been elevated to a golden label, all competing athletes must meet the set standards.

“Last year, we did less distance but this time; we are doing a full course, the standard of World Athletics requirements even though the course is tough. It is no longer just a race but one of the best and greatest Gold Label. We are expecting a good number of leaders who will be coming. We want to ensure that the course is good for the runners by giving opportunities to locals,” said Korir.
Korir who is also the Athletics Kenya Youth Development Director, said that the online registration has started and they are going to limit the competing numbers to a maximum 800 athletes per event.
“We want the locals to enjoy the value of this race. Last year’s edition was good and we want to improve on it. We want it to impact the lives of the community as majority of the prizes will be left there,” he said.
