The organisers of the 21stt Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon have announced an increase of the prize money for this year’s edition which is slated for October 27, 2024 at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
While making the announcement during the final press briefing before the race, the Local Organising Committee chairman who is also the Standard Chartered COO, Peter Gitau said that this year’s race having been labeled by the World Athletics Label Road Races made them also increase the winning price from the previous event.
“The marathon has the world Athletics label and we have made sure that we improve the wellbeing of the race in terms of service providers and we increase the prize reward,” said Gitau.
“The winner for the marathon in both men and women will take home Kshs 2million, Kshs I million for first runners-up and 500,000 for the second runners-up while in the half marathon the winners both men and women will pocket Kshs 300, 000, first runners-up Kshs 200,000 and second runners up gets Kshs 100,000” he highlighted.

This is an increase from last year’s edition which the first runners-up pocketed Kshs 750,000 with the second runners-up clinching 500,000 in the marathon while in the 21km race the first runner-up got 150,000 with the second runners-up getting 100,000.
In the 10km, the winners both the male and female, will receive Ksh 200, 000 each. The second and third-place finishers will pocket Ksh 150, 000 and Ksh 100, 000.
In the corporate relay race, the winners will walk away with Ksh 100, 000 while the wheel chair race will walk away with the Kshs 300,000.
This year’s race has recorded the highest number of participants in the whole country that totals to 25,000 registered runners from 90 nations.
Total cash prize money Ksh 12,925,000.00 has been set aside for this year’s Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon.
