Kenyans woke up to another shocking news of long distance runner Charles Kipsang Kipkorir who collapsed and later died after finishing the 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope held on Saturday (24) at Molkyo Stadium, Cameroon.

The 33 year-old had taken a commanding lead during the race, before he started slowing down after experiencing bouts of difficulty just metres to the finish line, but he managed to hold on and crossed the finish line in 16th place.

According to the Cameroonian Governor Bernard Okalai Bilia, the Kenyan athlete collapsed in what was suspected to be a heart attack.

Medics on standby at the Molkyo Stadium administered first aid to stabilise him before he was rushed to Buea Regional Hospital.

“We cannot say exactly what happened. We might believe that it is something like a heart attack,” said Bilia.

Kipkorir had taken part in four marathons that included Bali Marathon (2), Kuala Lumpur Marathon and Jakarta Mandiri Marathon.
