
Reigning World Cross Country Championships team gold medallist, Samuel Chebole Masai took the top honors at the second edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Championship on Saturday (07) in Chepsaita Secondary in Uasin Gishu County.
The 23 year-old who won the first of edition of the Sirikwa Cross country, took a commanding lead in the final loop and never looked back, cutting the tape in 30:49 and was followed by former Africa Games 5,000m champion, who is fresh from winning Iten Cross Country championships, Robert Kiprop Koech in second place in 30:58.
Reigning Festival du Cross-Country champion Mathew Kipkoech Kipruto closed the podium three finishes in 30:12.
“It was a good competition because the event attracted international athletes. After the third lap, the three of us pulled away,” Chebolei said.
Kenyans flopped in the women’s race with Chekwemoi winning the title ahead of Ethiopian Medides Shimeles Molla with Kenyan Celestine Biwott completing the podium.
