Reigning World Half Marathon champion, Sabastian Sawe smashed the race course record at the 25th edition of the Prague Half Marathon held on Sunday (05) in Prague, Czech Republic.

The 29 year-old who only managed a seventh-place finish at the recently held World Athletics Cross Country Championships, in Serbia, came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 58:29 that he got last year at the Valencia Half Marathon, where he finished in fifth place. Sawe lived to the race expectations as he dictated the entire race, crashing the old course record of 58:47, set 12 years ago by Ethiopia’s Atsedu Tsegay with a new course time of 58:23.

Sawe led a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as he was followed by double Malaga Half Marathon Geoffrey Toroitich Kipchumba in 1:00.00 with the reigning Lille Half Marathon winner Patrick Kabirech Mosin wrapping the podium three finishes in 1:00.14.

It was indeed a Kenyan affair race as, Gideon Rop and Jackson Muema finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 1:00.44 and 1:01.59.
