Ruth Gitonga made her debut more memorable when she took the women’s title at the Longonot Mountain and Trail Challenge held on Saturday (16) in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Gitonga who is based in Longonot at Run2gether stable and specializes in road races, brazed the chilly and rainy weather to emerge victorious in 1:14.50.
Gitonga was followed in second place by Philaris Kisang who clocked 1:15.25 with Joyline Chepngeno sealing the top three positions in 1:16.45.

“This is my first time to compete in the mountain running and I thank God I finished first. Am grateful because am used to road race but today I decided to come to this race am happy I have won the race,” said Gitonga.
Valentine Rutto and Gloria Chebet finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 1:16.51 and 1:17.38.
