Over 1,000 Participants in the Madrid Rheumatic Diseases Run

October 7, 2026

More than 1,000 people took part on Sunday, October 4, in the Sixth Race of Rheumatic Diseases, held at the Manzanares Linear Park in Madrid. The event combined 10-kilometer and 4-kilometer races, a 2-kilometer walk, and children’s activities to raise visibility for patients and support research. Ricardo Robleño and Ruth Ayuso were the winners of the 10K, while Sergio Carro and Margarita Pérez won the shorter distance.

Although forecasts had warned of rain, the weather held for a day that brought together patients, families, doctors, researchers, and patient associations. The route, flat throughout and developed inside the park, allowed participants of different ages and physical conditions to share in the activity. The 10K runners completed five laps of the circuit. Ricardo Robleño achieved the male victory with a time of 36:22, ahead of Ignacio Ortiz, second in 37:19, and Arturo Formariz, third in 37:29. In the female category, Ruth Ayuso prevailed with 40:06. Completing the podium were Corinne Schoch, 43:29, and Elsa Álvarez, 44:10. The 4-kilometer race, run over two laps, was won by Sergio Carro, 12:27, and Margarita Pérez, 17:03. The schedule also included a 2-kilometer march and children’s races, which reinforced the family character of the event.

Registrations allocated entirely to a charitable cause

Driven since its first edition by the Madrid Community Rheumatology Society (SORCOM), the race allocates 100% of the registrations to initiatives related to rheumatic diseases. In this edition, the National Association of Sarcoidosis Patients (ANES), chosen by lottery before a notary among the participating associations, will receive 3,000 euros for a therapeutic exercise program. The other portion of the funds raised will go toward a research grant, with the aim of contributing to the development of better diagnostic and treatment tools. The event was organized by SORCOM, with the support of the Spanish Society of Rheumatology and Reuma Fit. It benefited from the sponsorship of MM Conecta and Alfasigma and the collaboration of Biogen, Novartis, UCB, Roche and the City Council of Madrid, through the Usera District. The sixth edition once again brought together popular sport and solidarity in a day that allowed sharing kilometers and supporting projects to improve patient care.
