
Naumglorious Chepchumba endured the hot sunny day competing on a dry and dusty track at the first leg of Athletics Kenya track and field meet held on Friday (14) at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County.
Chepchumba, who trains alongside Naomi Korir won both the 1500m and 800m race which is her specialty. She was so elevated by winning the 1500m in 4.28.1 ahead of Vivian Cherotich’s 4.28.6.
“I opted to compete in 1500m since this is the first race and I am still focusing on my training. I will compete in 800m this season with my target being to compete at the World Championships and hoping to compete in the second weekend meet, said Chepchumba.

In the first day of event, the sprints attracted the highest number of competitors with the men’s 400m fielding 80 athletes in round 1.
In the men 5000m, Eldoret based runner Festus Kiprop led in heat one 14.1.08 as Kibet Ndiwa was placed second 14.6.4 followed in third by Anthony Kibet who timed 14.10.3. In the second heat final Shadrack keter timed 14.12.7 ahead of Simon Pulow 14.15.2 with Sila Kipkemboi clocking 14.16.8 in third place.
