Murkomen wins Florence Marathon

Dorine Jerop Murkomen,Lucy Chepoghon,Hellen Chepkorir,Teresia Kwamboka Omosa,Maria Gorette Subano, Firenze Marathon, Florence Marathon

The reigning Castellón Marathon champion, Dorine Jerop Murkomen fought off a stubborn field to lift the women’s title at the 40th edition of the Firenze Marathon held on Sunday in Florence, Italy.

The 26 year-old who has raced in four marathons this season and had carried a life time best of 2:29.39 that she got in Spain early this year, led a 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish as she was taken to the wire by the formidable field that had been assembled that included Lucy Chepoghon, Hellen Chepkorir and Teresia Kwamboka Omosa.

Murkomen who was pushed to the tape, emerged victorious in a time of 2:27.00 and was followed by Chepoghon in second place seventeen seconds later with Chepkorir coming home in third place in 2:27.58.

Omosa and Maria Gorette Subano finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 2:37.24 and 2:39.58 respectively.
