Mohamed Katir handed four more years for misleading AIU

World 5000m silver medallist, Mohamed Katir from Spain has been slapped with fours for doping by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for falsifying documents to mislead doping investigators.

The 26 year-old who had already been banned until February 2026 for missing three drug tests in a 12-month span, has now received an additional four-year ban, which will run concurrently to the two year-ban and end in February 2028.

Katir falsified a travel itinerary, boarding pass and booking confirmation “in an attempt to mislead investigators as they probed the veracity of his explanation” for missing a drug test on Feb. 28, 2023. Katir who also won a bronze medal in 1500m at the 2022 World Champs had accepted a two year doping ban from February this year after he was not present for an out-of-competition drug test.
