The 2026 edition of Ibercaja Madrid Corre por Madrid has been historic. In a race celebrated for its high participation with 10,000 runners, and in which the central emblem was the moving tribute to the centennial of the Generation of ’27, the race’s most virtuosic “pen” belonged to Lucía Rodríguez, who defended her title from the previous year with a time of 33:32, the best-ever female mark in the event and 35 seconds faster than her 2025 time.
Cristian Martínez also wrote his name in golden letters on the race’s roll of honor, as from the opening moments he displayed his bid for victory against Fernando Carro, who arrived at the San Juan de la Cruz start as the defending champion. The duo staged a beautiful duel that was decided on the final ascent of Marqués de Urquijo, with Martínez prevailing (29:12), a triumph he had dreamed of achieving here since his Ibercaja Madrid Corre por Madrid debut, run nearly a decade ago alongside his father.
