Kenya’s Loice Chemung beat Lilian Rengeruk who was regarded as the race favorite at the inaugural Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon Three-Runway System 10km International Race, held on Sunday (17) on a flat and fast runway track in Hong Kong.
The 27 year-old beat the 2019 African Games 5000m bronze medallist, Rengeruk, who also had the fastest time on paper of 29:32 that she got early this year in Valencia.
Chemung who braved the rainy and wet conditions, took the honors in 30:25.24 and was followed by the reigning African Games 10000m champion Janeth Chepengetich, whoc crossed the finish line in second place in 30:56 with Rengeruk completing the podium in 31:12.
The organisers had assembled a stellar field with a keen eye on the late Agnes Tirop’s women’s-only world record of 30:01 set three years ago in Germany, which will remain as of now.
