Linet Masai headlines Frankfurt Marathon

Former world 10,000m champion Linet Masai, will headline the 41st edition of the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon scheduled to be held on Sunday (27) in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

The 34 year-old who became the World Junior Cross Country champion in 2007 and set a world junior record for the 10,000m at the 2008 Summer Olympics, placing fourth in the final, will be fighting to redeem her name since making her debut over the distance in 2018, when she ran a personal best of 2:23.46.

Masai who is also the 2008 Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist, will have to get past the fastest woman in the field, Tigist Abayechew from Ethiopia who holds a life time best of 2:18.03 that she set two years ago in Berlin. The 30 year-old comes also with a season best of 2:23.58 that she got early this year at the Tokyo Marathon where finished in ninth place.

The race organisers have set up a strong field to try and lower the race course record of 2:19.10 set in 2019 by Valary Aiyabei from Kenya.
