The reigning Kuala Lumpur marathon champion, Beatrice Jelagat Cherop from Kenya has been slapped with two years doping ban for Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Triamcinolone acetonide), which is a violation of the World Anti-doping Agency.
The 38 year-old who had defended her title so well after taking the honors last year, had led 1-2-3 Kenyan podium finish when she took the honors in a time of 2:33.45
Cherop was caught on October 6, 2024, when she provided a urine Sample In-Competition at the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory in Doha, on November 3, 2024, reported an Adverse Analytical Finding in the Sample based on the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide2.
After being informed twice by AIU, the Cherop accepted using the ingested substance and she was issued with the mandatory sentence of two years and her results from October 6, 2024 were disqualified, with all resulting Consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points, prizes and appearance money.
This means that her compatriot Sheila Jepkosgei Chesang who was the first runner-up, who finished in second place in 2:37.15 will move to first place with Truphena Chepchirchir taking the second spot.
