Kiplimo’s Chicago Breakout: The WR Will Have to Wait

October 12, 2026

Jacob Kiplimo went from dreaming of a historic mark to finishing off the podium at the Chicago Marathon. The Ugandan, winner in 2025, crossed the 30-kilometer mark in 1:25:28, with a projected time of 2:00:12, but he could not sustain the pace.

The contrast with his 2025 victory was evident. Then, Kiplimo won with 2:02:23 despite also losing pace in the final stretch. This time, the wear was much greater and prevented him from contending for the win in a race in which he had been aiming for a historic mark.
