Former World Half Marathon record holder, Kibiwott Kandie started off the season on a high note as he won the 34th edition of the Barcelona Half Marathon held on Sunday (11) in Barcelona, Spain.
The 27 year-old who is also the 2022 Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medallist took the honors in 59:21 and was followed in second place by European Games 5000m silver medallist, Andreas Almgren from Sweden, who clocked a new personal best of 59:23 with the reigning Buenos Aires half marathon champion, Roncer Kipkorir KOnga wrapping up the podium three finishes in 59:28.
Reigning Incheon International Half Marathon champion, Dinkalem Ayele of Ethiopia and Kenya’s Hillary Kipkoech finished in fourth and fifth in respective time of 59:30 and 59:37.
Japan based Emmanuel Moi Maru from Kenya and the 2017 Kenyan National champion in 10,000m race Mathew Kimeli finished a distant sixth and seventh in a time of 59:43 and 1:00.14 respectively.
The race course record of 58:33 set last year by Kenya’s Charles Langat remains standing.
