Kenya will not field any athlete in the Men’s 3000m at the forthcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships slated for March 1st -3rd , 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland.
World 5000m silver medallist, Jacob Krop was the only athlete who had hit the qualifying mark of 7:31.35 that he got last year at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais, where he took the bronze medal but has opted out due to the tight calendar this season.
Athletics Kenya released a lean team of 11 athletes that has been selected to represent Kenya at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.
The team will be led by Africa’s fastest man 100m champion Ferdinand Omanayala who a forthnight ago won the 60m dash in National Record time of 6.52 seconds ahead of the 2022 Africa silver medallist, Emmanuel Eseme in 6.61 with former Africa record holder over the distance Arthur Cissé seasling the podium three finishes in 6.62.
Africa 400m Hurdles bronze medalist Wiseman Were, will partner with Boniface Ontuga Mweresa, Zablon Ekhal Ekwam, and Kelvin Tauta Sane in the 4x400m.
In the men’s 800m race Kenya will have their hopes on World Indoor 800m silver medallist, Noah Kibet and reigning CMCM Indoor Meeting 800m champion Collins Kipruto.
Kenya will send two women led by Japan based Teresiah Gateri who will participate in the women 3000m race and Nyahururu based Vivian Chebet Kiprotich who will race in women’s 800m race.
