World Master’s Marathon record holder Kenenisa Bekele will be the man to watch at the 42nd edition of the TCS London Marathon slated for April 21, 2024 in London.
Bekele who is the most successful runner in the history of the World Cross Country Championships, with a total of ten titles is also the oldest athlete in the entry list.
The 41 year-old comes to this race with fastest time on paper of 2:01.41 that he got at the 2019 Berlin Marathon where he took the honors.
Bekele who is considered as the greatest distance runner of all time will not have an easy time as he will have to get past the seventh fastest man in history, Mosinet Geremew, who comes to this race with the second fastest time on the entry list of 2:02.55 that he got in five years ago at the Virgin Money London Marathon, where he took the silver. Another title contender is the 2016 Olympic 10,000m champion Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia, who holds a life time best of 2:03.39 that he got at the 2021 TCS Amsterdam Marathon, where he took the honors.
The three Ethiopians will face-off with the four time World Half Marathon Champion, Geoffrey Kamworor, who is familiar with the terrain of the course after finishing in second spot last year with a life time best of 2:04.23 and the 2013 World Youth 3000m bronze medallist, Alexander Mutiso Munyao who also holds a personal best of 2:03.11 that he got last year at the Valencia marathon where he finished in second place.
The third-fastest Briton Emile Cairess will make his return following his impressive marathon debut last year and he will be joined by Callum Hawkins, Marc Scott and Mahamed Mahamed bot making their debut over the distance.
The race organisers have assembled a strong elite team to try and chase the race course record of 2:01.25 that was set last year by the late Kevin Kiptum from Kenya.
