Joyciline Jepkosgei wins Barcelona Half Marathon

A week after running away with the silver medal at the Sirikwa Cross Country championships, Joyciline Jepkosgei improved her podium place as she took the honors at the 34th edition of the Barcelona Half Marathon held on Sunday (11) in Barcelona, Spain.

The 30 year-old who is also the 2018 World Half Marathon silver medallist beat a strong field that included the World 5km record holder, Senebre Teferi of Ethiopia and Gladys Chepkirui who finished fourth at last year’s edition.

The double world major marathon champion, stormed to victory when she clocked 1:04.28 and was followed by Teferi in second place, twelve seconds later with Chepkirui sealing the podium three finishes in 1:06.36.

The 2013 European 800m champion, Jessica Warner-Judd from Great Britain and Anthony Felber of France finished in fourth and fifth in a time of 1:07.07 and 1:08.05 respectively.

The race course record of 1:04.37 set last year by Kenya’s Irine Kimais remains standing.
