Joyce Tele smashes the Ljubljana marathon course record

Kenya’s Joyce Chepkemoi broke the course record on her debut at the 27th edition of the Ljubljana Marathon held on Sunday (20) in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The 28 year-old who was nabbed on April 3, 2022 by National Anti-Doping Agency of Germany (NADA) during an In-Competition test at the ‘Generali Berliner Half-Marathon held in Berlin, Germany and sentenced to 18 months, made her third appearance on the roads this year after participating at the Mexico City Half Marathon in July and Buenos Aires Half marathon in August.

Tele beat an experienced field that included the defending champion and course record holder Zinash Gerado Senbeta of Ethiopia and her compatriot Gadise Mulu Demissie.

Tele smashed the old course time of 2:21.05 with a new course record of 2:20.17 and was followed by Mulu in second place in a new personal best of 2:20.59 with Senbeta coming home in third in 2:24.04.
