Double Olympic Champion Joshua Cheptegei made his debut memorable at the 19th edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon held on Sunday (20) in Delhi, India.

The 30 year-old who is fresh from winning the 10,000m at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is the current world record holder for the 5000m, the 10,000m and also holds the world best time over the 15km distance.

The double World Cross Country champion took on the field that included two-time World 5000m Champion, Muktar Edris, from Ethiopia who came to the race with the fastest time on paper of 58:40 that he got three years ago in Valencia and was also making his return to the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon after 2022.

The Ugandan won the race in a time of 59:46 and was followed by Matata from Kenya in 59:53 with his compatriot Nicholas Kipkorir, sealing the podium finishes in 59:59.

The race course record of 58:53, set in 2020 by Ethiopia’s Amdework Walelegn remains standing.
