Javelin Throwers Fail to Hit Paris Qualifying Marks at Kip Keino Classic

The Kip Keino Classic was marked with no javelin thrower meeting the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying mark as the 2015 World javelin champion Julius Yego performed to the disappointment of the home fans on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

Yego an Olympic silver medalist managed a throw of 72.25 to be placed ninth in an event that Latvian athlete Gatis Cakss powered his way to victory throwing 81.74m as no javelin thrower hit the qualifying standard of 85.50m.

The Kip Keino Classic meet record holder and defending champion Belgium’s Timothy Herman surrendered the title by being placed third with a throw of 79.96 behind the 2016 Rio Olympics champion German Thomas Rohler (80.42m).

Yego’s compatriot the 2013 Africa Junior gold medalist Alex Kiprotich settled for the eighth spot with 74.43 for disappointing afternoon for the Kenyans as the former European Youth Summer Olympics champion Patriks Gailum was fourth with a throw of 79.02
