Ivyne Lagat shatters her life time best as she wins the Rome Marathon

Kenya’s Ivyne Lagat shattered her personal best as she ran away with the Women title at the 39th edition of the Acea Run Rome The Marathon held on Sunday (17) in Rome, Italy.

Lagat who came to this race with a life time best of 2:41.54 that she got five years ago at the Sofia Marathon, led 1-2 Kenyan podium as she took the honors, destroying her own personal best by 17 minutes as she cut the tape in a new personal best of 2:24.35.

Lagat was followed in second place by the race favorite, Lydia Simiyu who crossed the line in 2:25.09 with Ethiopia’s Emebet Niguse wrapping up the podium three finishes in 2:26.40

Kenya’s Shamilah Taa Kipsiror and Obse Abdeta from Ethiopia finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 2:27.32 and 2:29.01 respectively.

The race course record of 2:22.52 set five years ago by Ethiopia’s Alemu Megertu remains standing.
