International elite athletes’ numbers swell as Kenya gears up to host Sirikwa Cross Country Tour

The third edition of the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Championships, a World Cross Country Tour- Gold will have the biggest number of elite athletes than the previous two editions.

According to the Race Meet Director, Barnaba Korir, said that we should expect the number to grow as time nears.

Korir who is also the Athletics Kenya (AK) Nairobi more athletes confirmed to Athletics News that about 33 elite athletes from various countries have confirmed their participation.

“Going by the number of athletes so far registered, I can say this year’s race will be bigger and better,” said Korir.

Kenya will use this Gold label event to select the team that will represent the country at the African Cross Country Championships slated for February 25, 2024 in Tunis, Tunisia.

Countries whose athletes have registered for the Lobo Village duel are Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Poland, Germany, Britain, USA and other nations from the Middle East.

Korir was speaking during the signing of partnership between Golazo Right Here and Dettol where a sponsorship package of Kshs 2.6 Million was given towards the Sirikwa Classic event.

Korir said they will be using this race as part of talent nurturing process across Kenya as he urged other corporates to come on board and join Dettol in supporting the event.

Sirikwa Classic will have a special category for the seniors in age brackets of 45-60 years and 60 and above, apart from the main races, to encourage the locals and other runners to keep fit.

The event was graced by Dettol Regulatory Affairs Manager James Mokoro said they are thrilled with the partnership and is hopeful the new relationship will help to grow the event.

“This partnership is a testament of our commitment and active role in supporting young sportsmen and women on their journey to success,” said Mokoro.

Present during the sponsorship was also Dorcas Kibet, the Golazo Right Here manager.
