Charles Matata wins Arrow Venloop Half Marathon

Kenya’s Charles Matata survived the strong wind weather conditions to run away with the men’s title at the Arrow Venloop Half Marathon on Sunday (24) in Venloop, Netherlands.

Matata who finished second at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon in October last year with a personal best of 1:00.05, dropped the leading group at the 12km mark and ran solo for the remaining 9k cutting the tape in 1:00.39.

Matata who led 1-2-3 Kenyan podium was followed by James Mutuku in second place in 1:01.36 with Raphael Kolian wrapping up the podium in 1:01.41.

Kelvin Kibiwott and Anthony Koech came home in fourth and fifth in respective time of 1:02.07 and 1:02.24.

The race course record of 59:18 set last year by his compatriot Hillary Chepkwony remains standing.
