Games: Janeth Africa Chepngetich wins the sixth gold medal for Kenya

Joy and celebration erupted in the country as Janeth Chepngetich gifted Kenya its sixth gold medal on the fourth day of the ongoing the All-Africa Games in Accra, Ghana.

The 25 year-old who runs under the kelite Ogilgey Camp stable and coached by Willy Langat, took on three Ethiopians led by Wede Kefale Belew, Amare Behre Tekan and Aberu Ayana Mulisa.

The race took a drastic turn of events with 300m remaining when Belew dropped the three but the Kenyan stuck with her and did a rabbit for few metres before exploding with a lightning speed that the Ethiopian could not respond to, crossing the finish line first in a time of 33:37.00 and was followed in second place by Belew in 33:38.37 with Tekan sealing the podium three finishes in 33:51.57.

Ethiopia’s Aberu Ayana Mulisa and Sierra Leone’s Theresa Kargo finished in fourth and fifth in respective time of 34:45.37 and 37:24.00
