Susan Chembai wins her second half marathon in a week’s time in France

The reigning Loop Den Haag Halve Marathon, Susan Chembai added another silverware to her name this season when she took the top honors at the 24th edition of the Lille half marathon on Sunday (17) in Lille, France.

The 24 year-old who a week ago won the Den Haag Halve Marathon in a personal best of 1:07.12, excelled once again when she led a 1-2 Kenyan podium finish as she cut the tape first in 1:08.01 and was followed by the 2015 world U18 3000m bronze medallist, Sheila Chelangat in 1:09.38 with France National Cross Country champion Margaux Sieracki closing the podium three finishes in a new personal best of 1:09.49.

Kenya’s Viola Chepngeno who was the fastest athlete on paper with a time of 1:06.48 that she got two years ago at the Generali Berliner Halbmarathon, finished in fourth place in 1:11.02 with Belgium’s Juliette Thomas finishing in fifth in 1:13.22.

The race course record of 1:06.57 set two years ago by Ethiopia’s Zenebu Fikadu remains standing.
