Shocking as Charles Korir Collapses and Dies after Racing in Cameroon

The body of the late Charles Kipsang Kipkorir will arrived tonight in the country at 2005hours via KQ flight KQ577 from Douala, Cameroon.

The 33 year-old collapsed and died after finishing the 29th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope held on February 24, 2024 at Molkyo Stadium in Cameroon.

Athletics Kenya (AK) has been working with the Cameroon Athletics Federation (CAF) to bring the body home.

Kipsang had taken a commanding lead during the race, before he started slowing down after experiencing bouts of difficulty just metres to the finish line, but he managed to hold on and crossed the finish line in 16th place.

According to the Cameroonian Governor Bernard Okalai Bilia, the Kenyan athlete collapsed in what was suspected to be a heart attack.

Medics on standby at the Molkyo Stadium administered first aid to stabilise him before he was rushed to Buea Regional Hospital.

“We cannot say exactly what happened. We might believe that it is something like a heart attack,” said Bilia.
