Loice Chemnung breaks Malaga Half Marathon course record

Kenya’s Loice Chemnung made her debut memorable when she ran away with her first women title over the distance at the TotalEnergies Malaga Half Marathon held on Sunday (10) in Malaga, Spain.

The 27 year-old who finished in seventh place in 1500m at the 2019 All-African Games, fought experienced field that included Winfridah Moraa Moseti who few months ago ran life time best of 2:20.55 at the Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, where she finished in second place and Spain’s Fatima Azzahraa.

Chemnung who came here with an excellent time of 30:08 over the 10,000m, endured the cold and rainy morning to erase the old course record of 1:07.36 that was set last year by Kenya’s Caroline Nyaguthii with a new course time and a personal best of 1:05.58.

Chemnung was closely followed by her compatriot, Moraa in second place in a new personal best of 1:05.59 with Moroccan born; now trading for Spain, Azzahraa finishing in third place in 1:11.31.

Spain’s Sara Reimondo and Great Britain’s Sophie Delderfield finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 1:15.07 and 1:19.58.
