Rosemary Katua slapped with a four year doping ban

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has slapped Rosemary Mumo Katua of Bahrain with four years for the Presence of a Prohibited Substance (Triamcinolone acetonide), which is a violation of the World Anti-doping rule.

The 27 year-old who has previously served a period of Ineligibility of three (3) years from 3 December 2017 to 2 December 2020 for the presence of 19-norandrosterone (a Metabolite of Nandrolone) in a Sample collected from her on 14 October 2017.

Katua was busted at the BTN Jakarta Run in Jakarta, Indonesia on 12 November 2023 when she provided a urine Sample pursuant to In Competition testing conducted under the Indonesia Anti-Doping Organization (“IADO”), on 29 November 2023, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand reported an Adverse Analytical Finding in the First Urine Sample for the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide.

This being the athlete’s second Anti-Doping Rule Violation and an early acceptance of sanction, Katua therefore received a one (1) year reduction in the asserted period of Ineligibility pursuant to Rule 10.8.1 ADR and disqualification of her results since 22 October 2023, with all resulting Consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points, prizes and prize and appearance money.
