Faith Kipyegon nominated for Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award

Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award slated for April 22, 2024 in Madrid.

Kipyegon who is also the World 1500m record holder will battle for honors alongside her track compatriots, the World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson and the two-time World 200m champion Shericka Jackson.

The 30 year-old will also face the Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, Spanish football star Atana Bonmati and Tennis star Iga Swiatek.

While sharing her joy to her fans, Kipyegon said she is so excited for the privileged to be nominated among the six ladies.

Kipyegon broke the 1500m world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy and less than a week later, she shattered the 5000m world record in Paris, France. She then obliterated a strong field to shatter the one-mile record at the Meeting in Monaco.

However, the 5000m world record has since been broken by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay who displayed class to shatter it at the Prefontaine Classic, the Diamond League Meeting final.

Kipyegon then won the 1500m and 5000m gold medals at the World Championships in Budapest before claiming the 1500m Diamond League Trophy. She also took bronze medal in the one-mile road race at the World Road Running Championships.
