Charles Karanja banned for four years

Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has banned Charles Kamau Karanja for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Testosterone), which is a bleach of the World Anti-doping rules.

The 24 year-old was nabbed on May 21, 2023, in an In-Competition urine Sample last year at the Seiko Osaka Marathon where he finished in sixth place in a time of 2:06.37.

Kamau was on July 4, 2023 issued the Notice of Allegation of ADRVs and imposed a mandatory Provisional Suspension and which later was confirmed to a ban after a series of Karanja failing to appear before the tribunal and failing to corporate with the two legal officers, Mr. Louis Weston and Mr. Thomas Horton who were representing him on pro bono.

Karanja’s ban will commence from the date of this decision and the period of Provisional Suspension served by the Athlete, from 4 July 2023 until the date of this decision, shall be credited against the total period of Ineligibility.

All of the Athlete’s results obtained at the 2023 Seiko Golden Grand Prix and since 21 May 2023 shall be disqualified and each party shall bear its own costs.
