Tributes continue to pour in as top elite athletes all over the world mourn the sudden demise of Kelvin Kiptum, the World men’s Marathon record holder, who passed on Sunday through a tragic road accident along Eldoret-Ravine Road.  

The top world class athletes led by the World 1500m record holder, Faith Kipyegon,  World 10,000m record holder Joshua Cheptegei from Uganda, four time Olympic champion Mo Farah of Great Britain, double Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha and double Olympic marathon champion, Eliud Kipchoge.

The four celebrated as well as mourned Kiptum through their various social media handles as they described him as arguably one of the world’s finest sportsmen who broke barriers to secure a marathon record.

Kiptum was driving his own vehicle, a Toyota Premio and he died on the spot alongside his Rwandese coach, Gervais Hakizimana in a grisly road accident along Eldoret -Ravine road in Keiyo South Sub-County, Elegyo Marakwet County.

The female occupant, Sharon Chepkurui Kosgei sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for treatment and was later discharged while the two bodies were ferried to Racecourse Hospital Mortuary in Eldoret awaiting autopsy.
