Joyce Tele to serve 11 days of AIU ban

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) banned Joyce Chepkemoi Tele for the Presence of a Prohibited Substance (triamcinolone acetonide), which is a violation of the World Ant-doping Agency.

The 28 year-old was nabbed on April 3, 2022, during the In-Competition test at the ‘Generali Berliner Half-Marathon held in Berlin, Germany. The test were conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency of Germany (NADA) and taken to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory in Cologne, Germany which reported an Adverse Analytical Finding in the Sample for the presence of Triamcinolone acetonide.

This being the first Anti-Doping Rule Violation and Tele admitting the Anti-Doping Rule Violation under Rule 2.1, the AIU slapped her with an eighteen (18) months of Ineligibility commencing on June 27, 2022 until December 26, 2023 and disqualification of her results on and since April 3, 2022, with all resulting Consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points prizes and appearance money.

Tele will serve her remaining eleven days of her ban after receiving the Ineligibility finding report on December 15, 2023. She has been out of competition almost the entire period of the full ban due to the investigation that were being carried out by Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) into the veracity of the Athlete’s explanation and authenticity of the asserted medical treatment (on the request of the AIU).
