Daniel Ebenyo breaks two records in India

World 10,000m silver medallist, Daniel Simiu Ebenyo made his debut memorable when he broke the race course record at the 7th edition of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K, the only World Athletics Elite Label road race over this distance, held Sunday (17) in Kolkata, India.

The 28 year-old who is also the Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medallist, also took down former world marathon record holder’s, world Best mark for a standalone 25K race of 1:11.18 set by Dennis Kimeto, eleven years ago.

Ebenyo who was the man on the mission faced a strong challenge from his compatriot Victor Togom whom he dropped at the half-way to surge ahead solo and crash the old course record of 1:12.49 set last year by Leonard Barsoton with a new course record time of 1:11.13.

Ebenyo who led a 1-2 Kenyan podium finish was followed by Togom who crossed the line in second place also under the old course in 1:11.13 with Ethiopia’s Tesfaye Demeke wrapping up the podium three finishes in 1:13.36.

Ebenyo won $7,500 as prize money and a bonus of $3,000 for breaking the course record.
