The Cities Against Pancreatic Cancer Race (CCCP) is a charitable event aimed at society to raise awareness of the problem posed by this type of tumor and to raise funds to finance research against this disease.
The Pancreatic Cancer Association (ACANPAN), which represents patients affected by this tumor together with the Spanish Association of Pancreatology (AESPANC) and the Spanish Association of Gastroenterology (AEG), which represent doctors and researchers specializing in the study and management of pancreatic diseases, promote and organize the Cities Against Pancreatic Cancer Race. These three organizations are non-profit.
What has been achieved so far?
A pancreatic cancer race held in January 2015 between the cities of Muchamiel and San Juan de Alicante was the seed from which the CCCP would grow. In November 2015 the Race of the Two Cities Against Pancreatic Cancer was held in Alicante and Las Rozas (Madrid), followed by the CCCP in Alicante, Las Rozas (Madrid) and Rome in November 2016, and in November 2017 in Alicante, Las Rozas (Madrid), Rome and Milan.
In 2018, new cities joined and the race was held in Alicante, Las Rozas (Madrid), Orihuela (Alicante), Terrassa and Vilamartín de Valdeorras (Ourense) in Spain and Milan, Bologna and Rome in Italy. In 2019, prior to the pandemic, the race was held for the first time in Murcia and the Las Rozas race moved to Madrid. And in 2020, the year of the Pandemic, the race did not stop, being held virtually.
In the following years, it has regained momentum. Some cities have not returned and others have joined. Barcelona, Tarragona, Estepona, Valencia…
In the latest edition, the year 2025, the race was held in Alboraya (Valencia), Alicante, Ávila, Burgos, Madrid, Vilamartín de Valdeorras (Ourense) and in its Virtual mode.
€1,461,000 has already been awarded in 20 grants to various high-level basic and clinical Spanish research groups, to seek improvements in early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of pancreatic cancer. These are the largest grants in Spain specifically dedicated to pancreatic cancer.
