Elgeyo Marakwet Governor, Wisley Rotich has urged Nike as a brand who have been the sponsors of the late world marathon record holder, Kelvin Kiptum to build a stadium in his county as an honor to the late.

Speaking at the burial of the late Kiptum, the governor asked the Golazo Management and Nike to come and aid in building a proper stadium named after their brand, Nike.

“For generations that I have been alive, Nike has been that brand that our athletes wear, but I have to humbly ask if they can come and build a proper stadium that our athletes can use for training “said Rotich.

The county which is internationally known as the home of champion has never had a stadium and athletes have to go to Kipchoge Keino stadium during speed work sessions which is in the neighboring Uasin Gishu County.

“We kindly ask NIKE to build a stadium here and name brand it NIKE and we promise to wear Nike products both locally and internationally as an appreciation for building us a stadium,” he urged.
