Iten based Gladys Chemutai ran away with Women’s title at the 21st edition of the Standard Chartered Bank Nairobi Marathon held on Sunday (27) at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.
Chemutai who knew the course so well after two previous attempts that she failed to podium, traded so well this time round as she took charge of the race from the 17km mark and never looked back.
The 29 year-old who is a mother of a four year son, Adriana Chepngetich, came to this race with a life time best of 2:29.53 that she got at this year’s Riyadh Marathon, where she finished in fifth place.

Chemutai who has participated in three marathons so far, made a name for herself as she emerged victorious in a time of 2:31.52 with Caroline Koech who felt the pinch of the course, coming home in second place over three minutes late in 2:35.00.
Joy Kemuma took bronze medal in 2:36.06.
This win I have dedicated it to the Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medallist Irene Cheptai who finished third at the Chicago Marathon, for the encouragement that she gave me, that I can also podium,” said Chemutai.
“I want also to thank my husband Kelvin Kosgei and our son who were cheering me at home,” she emphasized
The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon LOC chairman was feeling great for having an organized event that surpassed his expectations.
“The 21st edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has been incredible as we have seen a tremendous increase not only in the number of elite runners but also in the number of sponsors and participants. With the support of more than 40 sponsors and partners, we delivered an exceptional experience for our participants. This year we committed to hosting an inclusive and sustainable marathon. One of this year’s highlight was a partnership with Kiss Kids, where Standard Chartered Marathon 2024 provided a nursing room and nursing stations for parents to feed their children along the route and at the venue.”
