At just 23 years old, Fridah Ndinda is lighting up the athletics scene, showcasing how determination, discipline, and faith can transform dreams into reality.
The winner of the 2024 Hollywoodbets Joburg 10km race, she is proving to be a force to reckon with. Born in the small village of Kyagii in Machakos County, Kenya, Ndinda is the eldest of five children—two girls and three boys.
Ndinda claimed victory at the Hollywoodbets Joburg 10km with an impressive time of 33:57, outpacing Neheng Khatala and Karabo More, who finished in 34:29** and 34:33 respectively, after a thrilling final 200-meter sprint.
Humble Beginnings and Early Promise
Growing up, life was far from easy for Ndinda, but her passion for running became a beacon of hope. She began competitive running in 2012 while at Kamuya Primary School, where her talent quickly stood out. Her star began to shine brighter in 2016 when she earned a full scholarship to Kenswed Secondary School in Ngong—a town known for producing some of Kenya’s greatest runners, like Sarah Moraa and Ruth Chepngetich.
“I’m the only one in my family who runs,” Ndinda shares. “But my parents have always supported me. They encourage me every step of the way.”
Inspired by Legends
Ndinda’s motivation to pursue athletics came from watching Kenya’s world-renowned runners. Among her biggest inspirations is Faith Chebet. “Faith Chebet is my role model. Watching her and other Kenyan athletes made me believe I could achieve greatness too. It wasn’t easy, but I took the leap and dedicated myself to running.”
Impact Beyond the Track
Running has become a means for Ndinda to uplift her family. She supports her parents and pays for her siblings’ education, including her brother, who will start junior school in 2025, and her sister, set to sit for her Form Four exams the same year.
A Life-Changing Partnership
In December 2022, Ndinda partnered with Tatu City, marking a major turning point in her career. As their ambassador for running, she champions fitness and wellness while giving back to her community. “Tatu City has been instrumental in my journey. Their support, alongside guidance from my coaches Rob Berry and William Korir, has brought me this far. With hard work, discipline, and patience, I’m confident I’ll achieve my dream of representing Kenya at the 2028 Olympics.”
