World 1500m silver medallist Freweyni Hailu set a new Women’s Mile Meeting Record and a World Leading time at the Czech Indoor Gala, the second leg of the World Indoor Tour Gold held on Tuesday (31) in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
The 22 year-old who is also the World Road Running 1 Mile silver medallist, led 1-2-3 Ethiopian podium finish as she crossed the finish line in a strong word leading time of 4:17.36, that elevated her to sixth place in the women’s mile short track all-time rankings. Hailu was followed in second place by World Indoor 1500m bronze medallist Hirut Meshesha in 4:19.53 with Saron Berhe sealing the podium three finishes in 4:24.23.
“I am very happy with my performance today. I won a medal at the last World Indoor Championships. This time I am planning to run the 1500m and I am ready for it,” said Hailu.
The 2022 Africa Games 800m silver medallist, Netsanet Desta of Ethiopia and European U23 4x400m Relay silver medallist, Agathe Guillemot of France finished in fourth and fifth place in respective time of 4:24.80 and 4:29.02.
