The National Olympics Committee Kenya (NOCK) Secretary General, Francis Mutuku has officially announced his aspirations of becoming the next Nock president in the forthcoming elections that are slated for next month in Nairobi.
Mutuku was speaking during his manifesto launch on Thursday at the Nairobi Sports Club in Nairobi, emphasized that for Kenya to perform well at the 2028 L.A Olympics Games, the country should embrace early preparations and focus on the use of technology in advancement of sports saying that if that’s embraced with early preparations, then positive results will be obvious.
“The next Olympics will be in Los Angeles, the year 2028. If Kenya wants a medal haul, then this is the time to start and also embrace technology. We have to start now, support coaches and athletes now because if we wait until the last minute, then we will continue being sorry,” said Mutuku.
Kenya was ranked at number 17 during last year’s Paris Olympics Games even though the country topped the African list after accumulating 11 medals that had four gold’s, two silvers and five bronze medals a fete that Mutuku now thinks he can improve once he gets elected as NOCK’s president.
“I have been the engine room of NOCK for the last eight years so I know the positives and the negatives of the organization. I am talking from a point of knowledge and experience, a motivation that’s pushing me to the top seat so that I can change the face of sports in Kenya which will include gender, competence, performance and merit,” he emphasized.
Mutuku’ who is also the vice president of Tennis Kenya, tagged along his team that included Anthony ‘Jamal’ Otieno Ombok, president of Boxing Federation of Kenya, Kenya Amature Wrestling Association SG Erick Walucho, Kenya Tennis Federation president James Kenani,, Kenya Basketball Association Treasure Peter Orero who is also a Member of Parliament of Kibra Constituency, Moses Mbuthia who is the chairman Kenya Beach Volleyball.
