Africa’s fastest man in 100m Ferdinand Omanyala will start his season at the Meeting Indoor Miramas slated for February 2, 2024 at the Indoor Stadium in Miramas Métropole, France.
The 28 year-old who is also the reigning Commonwealth Games 100m champion, will head back to Miramas where he equaled his Kenyan National record in 60m race when he took the silver medal in 6.60 behind the former Africa record holder over the distance Arthur Cisse of Cote d’vore, who took the honors in 6.57.
The one time Diamond League winner, will have to get past Cisse, who comes to this race with the fastest time on paper of 6.54 that he got five years ago in Germany. Great Britain’s Andrew Robertson who shares the same time as Cisse and his compatriot Adam Thomas of 6.56 have also been rolled in to battle for honors with the Kenyan.
Omanyala who will use this Indoor Games as part of his preparations for the World Athletics Indoor Championships scheduled for March 1 to 3, 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland will participate in two more Indoors Meetings in Paris before heading for the latter.
Omanyala ran a world leading time over the 200m race at the third leg of the Athletics Kenya Weekend Meeting held at the Nyayo National Stadium where he took the honors in heat one in a time of 20.46 (+0.4ms).
