Eunice Chumba takes silver at Nagoya Women's Marathon

Former world half marathon champion, Eunice Chumba struck a silver medal at the 42ndd edition of the Nagoya Women’s Marathon on Sunday (10) in Nagoya, Japan.

The 30 year-old who came to this race with the fastest time on paper of 2:20.02 that she got two years ago at the Seoul Marathon where she finished third, was beaten to second place by Japan’s Yuka Ando who took on Chumba at the 39km mark as they raced neck-to-neck but the Japanese engaged a powerful gear to pull away from her as she increased her pace to cut the tape first in a new personal best of 2:21.19 with the latter forced to settle in second place seven seconds later.

Japan’s Ayuko Suzuki sealed the podium three finishes in a new personal best of 2:22.33.
